Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008 is the most recent edition from this well established back catalogue of games. As with the previous versions you can play as one of the twenty three golf professionals available to you, on twenty one different Championship and fantasy courses or you can lovingly create your very own virtual character within the Gameface option. You are able to edit virtually every aspect of yourself within the Gameface section, from face, hair and physique to the clothes and style of your wardrobe, you can make this as personal or as random as you like.
Once in the game you are greeted by a whole host of options, training, challenges and Pro Golf Tour are just some of the game modes available to you. The training sessions are a must as these will give gamer a good overview of how this game functions, and reacts particularly with the Wii remote which at times can throw up some unusual results. On the whole though the control is fairly consistent, which is quite reassuring for what is still a fairly new technology.
Challenges gives you the chance to test your skills against many different characters in a variety of skill sets. Long drive, skins, long put and the various head to head rounds give this section huge depth and play-ability, not only do you get to practice as you progress through these challenges but you can also increase you prize money as well as your styling and game play accessories.
During your journey through the various options you will encounter some nice familiar additions to the game, you still have the usual contour guides, power bars and wind speed dial to help you keep you shot on target and with the added shot confidence function and as well as the new version of Tiger Vision you are sure to get a handle on this game fairly quickly.
As you progress and increase your accessories and prize money you will also be rewarded with skill points that push you ever closer to the ultimate status of Professional and the chance to go head to head with Tiger Woods himself. The Gameface option and the unique controls give you the feeling you are as close to playing the real thing as you can get without actually doing it.
The game itself is the next stage in interactive gaming, with gamers now participating in the game rather that simply playing, the Wii remote adds control and interaction to what is potentially a fairly run of the mill game. The graphics and sound have barely improved since the playstation2 version, but this game is built on solid foundations and with the added advantage of the control it is going to be a while before this game gets boring.
