Having only just got used to Second World War shooters, I was rather dismayed to see that Infinity Ward had chosen to turn their hands to modern warfare.
But after seeing all the hype and watching gamers playing the fantastic looking Beta, I soon found myself wrapped up in all the hype and absolutely gagging for the game to be released.
And does it live up to all the hype? You bet, and then some!
For Call of Duty 4 is the most intense game yet from the award-winning developers.
Call of Duty 4 arms gamers with a veritable arsenal of advanced and powerful modern day firepower, including assault rifles with laser sights, claymore mines, .50 caliber sniper rifles and M-249 SAW machine guns. And then there are the exciting accessories like night-vision goggles and ghillie suits for maximum concealment.
Armed to the teeth with such an amazing array of weapons, the game then transports you to some of the most treacherous hotspots around the world where you then have to take on a rogue enemy group threatening the world.
As both a British SAS soldier and a US Marine fighting through an unfolding story full of twists and turns, players use sophisticated technology, superior firepower and co-ordinated land and air strikes on a battlefield where speed, accuracy and communication are essential to victory.
But what makes Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare a truly great game is the multiplayer aspect.
This builds on the success of Call of Duty 2 (Infinity Ward's last Call of Duty outing), delivering a persistent and hardcore online experience for greater community interaction.
Featuring create-a-class options, allowing players to customise gear that is best suited for play, to experience points enabling unlockables and perks, all the way to matchmaking and leaderboards for the latest in tracking, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's multiplayer is set to deliver easily accessible and totally addictive online play for all – no matter what your level.
